Vulnerable Road Users

If you look up the word vulnerable in a dictionary, one of the examples you may find is “able to be hurt, easily”. In a road-user scenario, “Vulnerable” is a term applied to those most at risk from other traffic; for instance, road users who are not protected by the shell of the vehicle they are in.

Objectives

Our objectives for the lesson will be to:
In this module we will look at who the most vulnerable road users are, how over-represented they are in road traffic accident statistics and what the Highway Code says about them. We will review the importance of good all round observation and look at the places and times where mistakes are most likely to occur. Finally, we will see how you can ensure you are optimising the safety of vulnerable road users near you, at all times, when driving.
