Cat C1 – 7.5T Licence
The Cat C1 licence allows you to drive any rigid body vehicle that is 3.5t – 7.5t typically used by paramedics, removals companies, recovery, horseboxes and for smaller lorry deliveries.
Most drivers will opt for the Category C licence if they are sure about a career as an HGV driver as they will get the C1 licence automatically. However, if you’re sure you won’t be driving anything above 7.5t in the future, stick to the C1 licence as it’ll be slightly easier to pass!
Some drivers will already have this entitlement on their licence if they passed their car test before 1997. They will need to do their CPC to be able to drive the vehicle transporting goods for hire or reward.
Earning potential: Dependent on job & location, a starting salary of 25k+.

Allows you to drive a category C vehicle with a detachable trailer over 750kg. It’s typically used for the largest loads over longer distances across the UK and internationally.
