FAQ
Are the theory tests hard?
Can I pay in monthly deposits?
Yes, we understand that you might not be able to pay all in one go. There is no additional charge for making monthly/early deposits and you can pay off your remaining balance at any time during your training.
Can you help me get a job as a newly-qualified driver?
Yes, companies are now more open to hiring newly-qualified drivers, they have to be due to the huge driver shortage! As we’re in contact the whole way through your training, we understand what type of work and hours you would ideally like and give you the options in your area. Most companies also have an induction programme where you’ll spend time with a driver trainer or experienced driver to help you on your way.
Do I have to do a fitness test for the medical?
No, the doctor will ask about your physical and mental medical history, take your blood pressure and perform a quick eye test on both eyes with and without any glasses or contact lenses (if you wear them).
How long should the training take?
It depends how quickly you want to get the licence. If you wanted to go as quickly as possible, we could pre-book your theories and practicals once we have your medical date. Depending on the DVLA sending back your licence in 2-3 weeks and passing your theory tests 1st time you could be sitting your practical and CPC in weeks 8-10. Otherwise, we’d expect you to sit your practical in or around week 12.
What are the benefits of being an HGV driver?
You should never be short of work providing you keep your licence clean. You’ll have access to a lot of different job opportunities with the opportunity to travel across the UK and potentially abroad. HGV drivers are critical to the UK supply chain and this has been recognised since the Covid-19 pandemic with wages and working conditions improving.
Do I have to be physically strong to be a lorry driver?
No, some of the roles are more physical than others such as multi-drop and drivers enjoy the physical challenge of those roles. In other roles all the unloading and loading is done by somebody else while you rest in the cab or on the site.
We’re sure you’ll have more questions which we’re happy to answer.
